Edexcel is the largest of England, Wales and Northern Ireland’s five main Examination Boards. Edexcel offers a variety of internationally recognized qualifications including BTEC qualifications (a series of largely vocationally based tertiary and higher level certificates and diplomas). Edexcel is an international organization awarding over 1.5 million qualifications per annum around the world. Edexcel was formed in 1996 by the merger of the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) and University of London Examinations and Assessment Council (ULEAC).

BTEC qualifications are offered exclusively by Edexcel. BTECs range from Entry Level to Level 8 (undergraduate level) on the National Qualifications Framework of the UK. They are developed in consultation with industry and professionals, with the aim of being relevant, progressive and recognized by professional bodies, employers and Universities. BTEC qualifications include the highly popular Higher National Diploma (HND) awards which are widely accepted by UK universities as being the equivalent of the first two years of study within cognate bachelor programmes. Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diplomas are therefore valuable entry qualifications onto relevant ‘Top-up’ (Stage 3) degrees, whereby successful diplomates gain direct entry into the third year of study for a Bachelor degree.
